A Parent's Guide to Kids' Care
What happens at a first visit, what we check, what we don't do, and the questions parents ask us most — all in one place.
Before You Come In
Everything You'd Want to Ask
Bring your questions to the visit — these are the ones we answer most often, and the answers don't change depending on who's asking.
Your Child's First Visit
Gentle, age-appropriate, and paced to your child. Nothing happens before we've explained it to both of you.
- A health history taken with you in the room — birth, growth, sport, and school habits
- A postural and movement screen suited to your child's age
- A hands-on exam with light touch; no surprises, no sudden movements
- A clear explanation of what we found and what we recommend, in plain language
What We Check
Kids rarely describe symptoms the way adults do. We look at the patterns instead.
- Posture from the front and the side — head, shoulders, hips, and feet
- Spinal and hip mobility through the ranges their sport or school day demands
- Growth-stage timing, especially through rapid spurts
- Foot mechanics and shoe wear — often the root of knee, shin, and heel complaints
What We Don't Do
Chiropractic care for children is different from care for adults, and it should be.
- No high-velocity, forceful adjustments on growing spines
- No treatment without a clear explanation to you first
- No long-term plans sold before we know whether care is helping
- No guesswork — if something needs imaging or another provider, we'll say so
At Home Between Visits
The small daily habits do most of the work, and they cost nothing.
- Backpack at no more than about 10% of body weight, worn on both shoulders
- Screens up to eye level, with a break every 30 minutes
- Eight to nine hours of sleep for school-age kids and teens
- One full day off a week for young athletes, in every season
